Judicial Candidate Ashley Cox Says She’s A Conservative; Her Record Says Otherwise So The Voters Will Judge Her

Last week during a Fernandina Beach “We The People” forum for candidates for Circuit Judge 4th Judicial Circuit, Group 34, Ashley Cox told the largely Republican audience that she was a conservative. Her opponent, Nancy Cleaveland, stated that she too is a conservative.

“…your answers and the evidence don’t add up Ms. Cox.”

There is evidence Ms. Cox didn’t tell that group the truth, far from it. I didn’t attend the session but talked with several folks that did.

I was told that most political questions directed to the two were answered with “cannon law prevents us from answering questions like that” leaving little to differentiate between them. Nor do their educational and legal backgrounds appear different or contain many clues.

Local Citizens for Defending Freedom Executive Director Jack Knocke, who attended, dug deeper and discovered that “conservative” Ashley Cox is a registered Democrat while Ms. Cleaveland is indeed a registered Republican.

In fact, while poking around Jack also discovered that Ms. Cox contributed $500 to failed Democrat gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum’s campaign when he unsuccessfully ran against Ron DeSantis in 2018. This is the same Andrew Gillum who was found inebriated in early 2021 in a Miami Beach hotel room with two other men, one a male escort, and three bags of suspected crystal meth on the bed and on the floor. Following the incident Gillum admitted he was bisexual and admitted himself into a rehab center.

The no-so conservative Ms. Cox.

For a gal that wants to be a judge, Ms. Cox obviously isn’t a good judge of character. And her voter registration certainly doesn’t reflect that of a conservative.

Both Jack and I find it odd that no one at the forum asked either of the candidates in the nonpartisan race how they are registered, I guess assuming that if they said they were “conservative,” it was presumed they were Republican. I’ve never met a Democrat who admits being conservative and would assume they are a rare if not nonexistent species hereabouts.

I contacted Ms. Cox and asked her if she was a registered Democrat or Republican. She responded saying: “I am very sorry, but the Judicial Canons say that even ‘privately’ judicial candidates cannot answer that question.” Jack and I looked that up and by golly, she’s right. What a stupid law.

I again contacted Ms. Cox asking about the $500 contribution to Gillum. She did not respond, even to say she can’t comment.

The conservative Ms. Cleaveland.

Further research reveals more interesting information about Ms. Cox including the fact that there is a lot of money flowing into her campaign with lawyers contributing in droves. I’m suspicious of lawyers that work in packs or PACS. Contributors include Farah and Farah as she  stated at the forum. Also funding Ms. Cox’s campaign is more than $330,000, much of it coming from Republican PACS. Why would Republican PACS contribute to a Democrat, particularly one that funded a Democrat opponent of DeSantis? What am I missing here?

I wrote earlier that I am voting for Ms. Cleaveland, a registered Republican, and a true conservative, and I’m sticking with that decision. She has the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police and Republican State Senator Clay Yarbrough, among many others. She’s also  a member of the Federalist Society. That’s good enough for me.

Ms. Cox, her PAC of lawyer contributors, Democrat voter registration, and political contributions to Democrat Andrew Gillum tell me everything I need to know about her.

Mt. “Nomore”, Not Mt. Rushmore: Despite what an addled aging Nancy Pelosi says, Joe Biden and his legacy don’t belong on Mt. Rushmore, but instead rotting in a dumpster with no hope of ever surfacing again.

The Democrat’s far-left radical duo of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz not only want to continue it but add onto the national and international misery it created if they win the election. The selection of Walz makes one believe that the Democrat party must be involved with the Make A Wish Foundation.

Americans reviewing Biden’s long and depressing heritage that has resulted in horrible problems for our nation need to be reminded of the damage that has been inflicted and what to expect if the socialist Harris-Walz ticket is elected. Following is a sampling:

  • By 2023 the median sale price of a house was almost 35 percent higher and even if they were affordable, soaring interest rates – going from less than 3 percent to almost 8 percent since 2020 – have put them out of reach for the average American. Electricity has risen about 30 percent and aggregate prices at the grocery store are up by more than 25 percent and wages have decreased due to inflation
  • Following the Monday, August 4 dramatic stock market plunge even Jim Cramer, host of CNBC’s “Mad Money,” told his audience: “If you’re in the stock market, if you care about your paycheck, you go with Trump. That’s what you do.” According to economists “Bidenomics“ cured the economy of growth and price stability, replacing  them with anemia and inflation.
  • Tim Walz and friends.

Harris and Biden boast about “robust job creation” but fail to mention that that the majority of those hires are government employees who contribute to the massive tax-sucking bureaucracy and add more smothering regulations and taxes on an already suffocating business community and tax payer. Employment is essentially where it was in 2019.

  • The more than $30 trillion national debt is the greatest debt ever by any nation. It is the GOAT (greatest of all-time) of national debts. It is beyond gigantic! The interest on it is now more than the U.S. spends annually on the defense budget. Biden and Harris continue to find new ways to spend even more of our money in loan forgiveness scams and inviting millions of new people into our already struggling Social Security program. They are deliberately increasing our national debt to suicidal levels to buy votes.
  • In foreign policy Biden fell flat on his face coming out of the starting gate with his humiliating Afghanistan surrender that killed 13 American soldiers, provided the Taliban billions of dollars’ worth of high tech weapons, a massive strategic airbase close to China, and another staging ground to launch international terrorist attacks.
  • After the Afghanistan disgrace the Biden-Harris duo followed up further displaying their ineptitude in foreign policy in the Middle East and Ukraine, exhibiting weakness and incompetence on all fronts. China is not the least impressed by this timid administration and has been militarily emboldened, recently flexing its air and sea muscle.
  • Under Trump Iran was broke, up against the ropes economically and there was no negotiating on nuclear capabilities. Biden’s “Don’t” diplomacy is a joke and Iran is rolling is cash due to Biden’s lifting of sanctions and inexplicable attempts at appeasement and is just a few weeks away from having nuclear weapons.
  • Their DEI nonsense is hollowing out American military strength, just as it’s poisoning the rest of American society. The Biden-Harris administration has prioritized DEI and LGBTQ+ initiatives for the military. They’re spending more on this rubbish than on warfighting capabilities. As a result recruitment is down drastically and these two have no idea of how to fix it other than to continue saying “diversity is our strength.”
  • The Biden-Harris administration has created cadres of DEI officers that are shaping the culture, the personnel, and the budgeting process throughout the federal government, which controls trillions of dollars of public resources to ensure America will be permanently ruled by people who act and think like those who run Columbia, Harvard, NYU, etc.
  • The Biden-Harris combo followed the Democrat party’s lead in its weaponization of the Department of Justice, the IRS, and the FBI. The Hunter Biden laptop and the phony Russian collusion scams are key examples. The DOJ put out a memo essentially saying that parents protesting at local school board meetings were potential domestic terrorists. The FBI moved to investigate Catholic pro-life groups and concerned parents at school board meetings as potential domestic terrorists. While hundreds of pro-life pregnancy centers have been targeted for arson and vandalism by pro-abortion extremists the DOJ stays silent. The legal targeting of Trump, his staff and supporters is continuing to be exposed. Is there more to the Butler assassination attempt than the Secret Service so far has admitted to? Hopefully not, but rumors are spreading.
  • Climate hysteria and electric vehicle fantasies are adding to the high cost of energy and other commodities while the U.S. sits on the largest oil reserves in the world. The Biden-Harris duo refuse to allow energy companies to extract them, instead fantasizing about windmills and solar panels that require massive amounts of energy produced by coal in China to manufacture, have to be junked after 10-20 years, mar the landscape, create landfill and other serious environmental issues such as killing birds and whales. Oh, they don’t work either.
  • A wide-open border so far has allowed an estimated 15-20 million unvetted illegal aliens to pour into the U.S. causing economic and criminal turmoil nationwide. City and county budgets are strained by illegals crowding into local schools, housing projects, local hospitals, shelters, etc. Law enforcement is on constant alert as illegals with gang backgrounds run rampant. Harris had one job, that of border czarina. Her failure is epic. When she started there was a border. It no longer exists.
  • International criminal drug cartels are freely moving illegal drugs into the U.S. across the wide-open border causing death and misery at an unprecedented rate.
  • The frightening rise in antisemitism is making American streets look like Germany’s Kristallnacht in 1938. It’s spreading dangerously and rapidly throughout college campuses spilling onto city streets. The White House has never condemned it. Iran has all the “useful idiots” it wants in Washington, D.C., many like Democrats Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar currently sitting in Congress slavishly serving only the deranged Iranian mullahs.

From now on the term “Biden-Harris Administration” and the word “incompetent” will be synonymous. Adding far left Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as the Democrat VP candidate makes it even worse. As the late journalist H.L. Mencken said of Democrats: “They seem to be quite unaware  that their opponents have rights.”  He went on to add: “They have only one genuinely novel idea: whatever A earns belongs to B. A is any honest and industrious man or woman. B is any drone or jackass.”

In a nutshell the Democrats via Biden and Harris govern the country as though they own it. Harris-Walz will be worse, they’re the most socialistic duo ever presented to American citizens.

***

Speaking of Kamala Harris: During a black journalist gathering in Atlanta recently when Donald Trump was asked by ABC correspondent Rachel Scott if he thought Kamala Harris was a DEI hire he should have answered saying: “Well, Biden said he would appoint a woman of color as vice  president and he didn’t cite any qualifications. What do you think?’

Harris has displayed she’s the archetype of the actual meaning of DEI – Didn’t Earn It.

  • Judicial Cannon have some of the strangest laws imaginable. A judicial candidate cannot politically advertise pictures with another candidate running on the same ballot cycle nor can they accept endorsements from candidates on the same ballot cycle . It’s a bizarre concept to not be allowed to openly be endorsed by candidates on the same ballot. That’s just one of the weirdest ones that I know of. Either way, I can openly support whoever I choose and I choose Nancy Cleaveland. Not only is she beyond qualified to be our next judge, she is a beautiful person, wife and mother. She has a pure heart and is just and fair for all people, regardless of political affiliation.

  • Everything you have written in this article is based on fact. My heart is so sick to realize that so many Americans, especially younger people have no understanding of the history of countries who have believed in such socialistic control of the masses! Extreme controlling rulers have relished in dividing the citizens, steadily calculating ways to take the wealth and freedoms of citizens away by numbing them to believe that the government will give everyone free healthcare, college educations, the most healthy water and climate, etc, etc! It is a total sickening bundle of lies! Let us truly ask God to guide Trump and Vance to stay focused on the truth of where the USA really is and how crucial it for our country to take every effort to make our country the true democracy it was founded upon! Listening to the lies of Harris – Walz and the over powering liberal media messages make me want to vomit about the potential of their chilling and evil ideas! This is the most important election in the history of our nation! May the people of America open their eyes to the true picture!!

    • Your comment “Let us truly ask God to guide Trump and Vance…” tells me all I need to know about you. So, I won’t even bother addressing your pathetic comments.

      • Dan Cooper you are one idiot for your comments on the Doctors message. There is noting wrong with asking God to help anyone. Just sad to know that you will go to the fires of hell when you die.

      • If nothing else, this post by Dr. J. Annie Hurt Yankus is not a good look for someone who’s authored a book under the pretense of helping women escape bad marriages to abusive husbands. Not to mention her claims of a leadership role in the National Alliance on Mental Illness organization. Despite her role as a “mental health specialist”, I can find nothing in her educational background that makes her qualified to counsel people afflicted with mental health issues. Her post above underscores that point. Alternatively, my wife holds advanced degrees in the mental health field with multiple licensures and credentials across many specialties. Regardless of my wife’s politics, professional decorum requires her to refrain from public rants bordering on the unhinged like the above because her clients come from all walks of life and circumstances. She cannot provide effective treatment if she alienates them with her personal thoughts on religion and politics. Even in retirement, she would never publicly put on display a confusion between facts and opinion, which Dr. Yankus has clearly done.

        • Hello David. We hope you are enjoying your weekend. We certainly are and mostly inside during these “Dog Days” of 2024. If you haven’t seen the movie, “Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou” than I suggest that both you and Linda do so for entertainment and historical purposes. This cult film/satire is an oft “comical” look on the way the South was post-The Great Depression. George Clooney’s politics aside, I must admit that his acting was superb in this movie. A rather dark side of the plot displays to viewers how someone of importance in the community (or at least he thinks he/she was) must cover his/her face not revealing who he/she is while attending KKK rallys. Of course, today this practice is outlawed and the identities of individuals now in the KKK are known to all. Enter modern times and the days of social media where one can hide his/her identity using a false name and/or title to perform character assassination in print on who or whom they choose. Especially against those with other political or social values. Is the KKK still around? A cowardly person today does not wear the white hood of the KKK to hide. Nah…the cowardly person now can sit at home in air-conditioning easily spewing venom on any person they disagree with. Anyway, David, Dr. Annie has been the guest speaker at two conventions this summer. One convention was at the Hyatt Ravinia Perimeter in Atlanta and around your old Atlanta stompin’ grounds! This month she travels to New Orleans for another conventon for the “Catholic Daughters of America.” Oh, wait…the KKK also chastised Catholicism way back when. Oh, boy…Take care, David.

          • Ginni Thomas and Martha-Ann Alito have together helped to destroy a great deal of trust the American people have in the U.S. Supreme Court. Democracy has suffered a blow through their actions. The majority of Americans now believe Supreme Court justices put ideology over impartiality. Fair or otherwise, there are certain professions that require a husband or wife to take steps to avoid compromising their spouse’s ability to perform vital roles in society. While your wife is busying herself speaking at conventions, my wife is saving lives through suicide prevention and helping addicts recover. I use a pseudonym out of respect for my wife’s responsibilites to appear unbiased and without prejudice to her clients. Furthermore, you are mistaken in believing that pseudonyms are a recent product of modern times and social media. Perhaps you’ve heard of “Publius” and the Federalist Papers? There was nothing dishonorable or cowardly about Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay hiding their identities.

          • I rarely respond to comments here, but I’m making an exception in your case. You do refrain from using vulgarities and outright defamation, but you’ve crossed the line. You personally attack others who publicly identity themselves, yet you cowardly hide behind the pseudonym “Moderate Majority”. You justify your spineless actions by citing Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay, a trio who would have been shot on sight if they revealed their identity. To paraphrase Senator Lloyd Bentsen: “You sir, are no James Madison, John Jay or Alexander Hamilton.” You personally attacked Dr. Annie Yankus, then brag about how talented and literate your wife is in comparison. OK then, who is you wife? What are her credentials. Who are you? What are your credentials? Based on your previous comments here shouldn’t you be proud to tell us about yourself and your wife? Mr. Yankus articulately defended His wife, Dr. Annie Yankus, who also has no problem identifying herself. You have no credibility here, none. Unless you take your KKK hood off and identify yourself or present a very convincing brief argument why you won’t, then I’m deleting any future posts from you. You’ve become a trolling nuisance and a waste of time and you’ve not provided a single reason why anyone reading this blog should be interested in anything you have to say.

  • You are voting for Klynt Farmer and Jeff Gray. They both voted for Riverstone. Lots of people do not want this island destroyed with high rise condos , trees knocked down. Please print that they both support Riverstone as many people do not know.

    • It’s high value development like Riverstone that pays for Nassau’s educational system. You likely would have been opposed to the Ritz and Carlton Dunes too. The one vehicle you’re not likely to see at Riverstone is a school bus. It’s almost all value add to the County’s schools and I live on the south side of the island.

      • Sure, but at what cost to the environment? Massive development in a designated bird sanctuary and on the edge of some of Florida’s most beautiful state parks, beaches, marshes and protected waters. There are other and better ways to support education.

        • It’s private property. You want to devote the land to your environmental purposes then buy it and satisfy your objectives. Nassau County is a developing community and change will happen. You should have realized that when you moved here.

          • Perhaps those fools entered into a settlement agreement with Riverstone on terms that, to our shock, heavily favored the developer might have considered ways to fund a purchase. Would the people of Nassau County support a bond to be repaid through a self imposed (and very slight) increase in their real property tax rates? Economic stewardship can and has, especially in our area, resulted in increases in real estate values as a result of the increasing rarity of special places yet to be spoiled by disregard for the beauty and importance of preserving nature. I could keep going on with many more progressive ideas that have achieved successful results throughout the nation, but the point you are missing is that those idiots just bent over and took it right up their butts.

          • So, basically you don’t care about the environment or what we leave behind for future generations. Drill baby, drill, right?

  • Ashley Cox – another Democrat lying and cheating……. and she wants to be a judge ? No Way !!!

  • I must say that even though this is an opinion column, most of the statements on the judicial and presidential races are fact-based.

Both of the judicial candidates are excellent, but many of us would prefer a more Conservative one to a more progressive one. Cox can hide behind her “judicial canons”, but we need to know these things for our due diligence to make our voting decisions. History has proven that worldviews do affect judicial rulings.

It seems that I may be the only one who recorded the candidates’ responses to Deb Boelkes’ incisive questions, moderated by Linda Palin at the We the People judicial candidate forum: https://www.citizensjournal.net/circuit-court-judge-candidates-answer-voter-questions/

By the way, it’s judicial canons, not “cannon.”

Even though some people claim that all politics is local, that simply isn’t true. The presidential race will affect on our lives more than any other voting decision we will make this year. Donald Trump has not exactly been a paragon of virtue, but he put forth the best policies I have ever seen in my lifetime, which even in only four years and with great opposition were a big plus for our country and its people. His term was marred by him taking bad advice he received on handling COVID and signing too many big ticket bills, but he otherwise helped move the nation forward.

I am stunned by the poor quality, deeply flawed candidates (Harris/Walz) put forward by the so-called “Democratic” party, via undemocratic means. in 2020, Joe Biden, who was initially polling single digit numbers, was thrown in when the Dems were panicking over an unelectable “Socialist” Bernie Sanders threatening to take the nomination. Those who followed the convention and events leading up to it know what I am talking about.

Biden has been a weak, incompetent, corrupt, dishonest, hard-left politician for a half century, but was used as a compromise (and compromised) candidate. If you believe that he got 81 million votes, then I have a bridge in Chuck Oliva’s hometown I want to sell you. Harris never got a single electoral vote, but was catapulted to the vice-presidency by Joe Biden promising to pick a black woman candidate. No racism and strictly a merit selection there, huh? Being a 41 year former resident of California, I was appalled at how she moved up the ladder and what she did- or didn’t do- in various offices there. Even many Democrats view her with disgust and derision. But like Biden, she mostly had media and party support and cover-up of her bad side. Let’s not allow that to happen this year. So, suddenly everyone noticed that Biden’s incompetent, even though that’s been obvious for 8-10 years. Then senior leadership Democrats forced him to drop out of the race. Exactly what was the democratic process that resulted in Harris becoming the (presumed?) nominee? Hmmm?

  • What’s the point Mr. Scott? You will undoubtedly delete what I have to write anyway. I have taken great pains to explain why I will not reveal neither my nor my wife’s name. The problem of reading comprehension is yours to bear. BTW, you and Mr. Yankus are the ones who extolled Ms. Yankus’ book and other qualifications in this blog. I merely questioned the validity of those praises based on her opinions, which she incorrectly stated as fact, and are in direct conflict with what she professes to be. Your blog. Do as you will in your echo chamber.

    • You have never taken “great pains” to explain anything, much less why you cowardly and pitifully refuse to identify yourself. You are obviously as out of your depth responding here to readers as you are in a child’s wading pool. We’ve already wasted too much time with you. Time to cut you off.

      • Dude, you’re a real piece of work. Do you think it’s funny to write in such a Trump-like inflammatory manner or is that the only way to deliver your message to a bunch of bigoted, homophobic, gun toting, old white men? You can dish it out but you can’t take it when more reasoned voices speak up. You sir are the one wearing a white hood!

        • Mark, you sure have a way with words. Is that non-Trumpspeak language you use so well, dude?

    • MM, I look forward to the day that I meet you and your wife. You area glimmer of hope that this blog represents just a small sample of the local conservatives. Personally, I am pretty darn liberal but I have no problem with reasonable and nice people who might disagree with my views. Not many of those types here. Thanks again for all of the time that you invest trying to educate the ignorant.

  • There Is no reason in any blog, anytime, or a man to display misogynistic behavior, contempt and/or prejudice against a woman. In this case, the wife of a contributor, or any contributor for that matter. David, thank you for your response as this is a serious form of sexism by one (I refuse to call him by the handle he hides behind) narcissistic individual kseeing a women at a lower class or social status for her lifetime of accomplishments. This is a form of bullying and what Annie had to endure in her past life and for her book. Shame on the blog contributor. Shame on her deceased former spouse who also displayed misogynistic behavior. I have said my peace. A simple apology needed to her in writing to such a kind, devout and caring women for such despicable comments.
FOOTNOTE…Annie’ comment was…”Well Tom, it looks like I have another name to place on my praylist.”

  • I support Moderate Majority and future President Harris. May there be a peaceful transfer of power. Hopefully the republican party will then move forward with a better slate of candidates in the future. DeSantos has already flamed out and next we’ll eliminate Gaitze, Jordan and Greene to start.
