The other day I spoke to a gentleman named Brian who told me that a little over a week ago a fellow named Carter, from the Janet Adkins campaign, phoned him to personally ask for his vote for Ms. Adkins, saying that he was recently in Brian’s ‘neighborhood and knocked on his door, but nobody was home.
It didn’t take local restaurant entrepreneurs T.J. Pelletier, Roberto Pestana and Al Waldis long to cash in on their wildly successful downtown Fernandina Beach Amelia Tavern as after less than three months they handed over the keys last week to their key financial backer, Amelia Island resident Dr. Robert Hogan, and his newly recruited management team.
When I was a kid about eight or nine years old wandering through a toy store I spotted a boxed western frontier fort, complete with tiny soldiers and Indians and relayed to my mom that’s what I wanted for Christmas that year.
If I was a young man unsure of exactly what I wanted to do for a living but knew I wanted to live comfortably in the tropical resort community of Amelia Island, then I’d have been hanging off the gates of the WestRock Fernandina Beach Paper Mill to be one of the first in line to apply for one of the jobs advertised in a quarter page display ad in the local News-Leader newspaper recently.
